Wooden court theatre within the Palazzo della Pilotta in Parma, built from 1618 for Duke Ranuccio I Farnese to a design by Giovan Battista Aleotti and inaugurated in 1628. Constructed of fir and stucco painted to imitate marble, it seated about 3,000 spectators and is considered one of the earliest theatres with a permanent proscenium arch.
