Vast Farnese palace complex built from 1580 in Parma's historic centre, taking its name from the Basque pelota game Spanish soldiers once played in its courtyard. Left unfinished when construction halted in 1611, it now houses the Teatro Farnese, the National Gallery, the Palatina Library and the National Archaeological Museum under one roof.
