Fortress perched on a sheer rock outcrop above San Leo in the Montefeltro, rebuilt in its present form in the fifteenth century for Federico da Montefeltro, likely to a design by Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Under papal rule it served as a prison, most famously holding the adventurer Cagliostro, who died there in 1795.
