Roman mausoleum on the Via Appia Antica, built in the second half of the 1st century BC for Cecilia Metella, daughter of the consul Quintus Caecilius Metellus Creticus. At the end of the 13th century the Caetani family incorporated the tomb into a fortified complex spanning the road, adding the adjoining church of San Nicola, whose walls survive alongside the mausoleum.
