Picture gallery in Cagliari's Cittadella dei Musei complex, built between 1956 and 1979 within the city's former royal arsenal. Its core collection formed after the 1875 demolition of the church of San Francesco brought a large group of Catalan and local Gothic retables into state hands, later joined by Sardinian, Italian, Spanish and Flemish paintings from the 15th century onward and 19th-century ethnographic pieces.
