Component of the UNESCO-listed Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, the castle at Agliè grew from a 12th-century fortress of the San Martino counts into a Baroque residence after Amedeo di Castellamonte's 1667 remodelling. Acquired by the Savoy family in 1764 and passed to the Italian state in 1939, it preserves frescoed apartments, a gallery of knights' portraits, and a romantic park landscaped in the 1830s-40s by the German gardener Xavier Kurten.
