Château built between 1598 and 1634 for Jean-Louis de Nogaret de La Valette, Duke of Épernon and a favourite of Henri III, in a style already anticipating 17th-century classicism. Painted ceilings, monumental fireplaces and tapestries make up its decor; used as a women's prison from 1822 to 1951, it is now managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
