A museum born from the gift made to Compiègne in 1839 by the entrepreneur and patron Antoine Vivenel (1799–1862), who dreamed of an encyclopaedic collection spanning every art and every age. Housed since 1952 in the Hôtel de Songeons-Bicquilley, it presents Gaulish and Gallo-Roman archaeology, Greek vases, Italian faience and French paintings.
