Born of the bequests of Arthur de Marsy in 1901 and Alfred Ternisien in 1927, it opened in 1984 as the first museum of note devoted to the historical figurine. Its some 30,000 pieces trace armies through the centuries and are staged in dioramas, including Charles Laurent's Waterloo.
