Founded in 1866 in the wake of Arcisse de Caumont and then destroyed by the bombing of 1944, the museum reopened in 1956 in the former hôtel-Dieu, a classical 18th-century building. Its collections combine archaeology, fine arts, ethnography and industry to tell the story of the Norman Bocage.
