Set in the former Abbey of the Ladies of Saint-Pierre, known as the Palais Saint-Pierre, the museum was born of the Chaptal decree of 1801 and opened in 1803. Its seventy rooms range from antiquity to modern art, with the Venetian Renaissance, a Rembrandt, a Gauguin, and the Jacqueline Delubac bequest.
