Housed in the Hôtel de Jouéry, a mansion given to the city in 1929 by the patron Maurice Fenaille, the museum opened in 1937. It holds its famous collection of Rouergue statue-menhirs, alongside Gallo-Roman antiquities, medieval sculpture and six works by Rodin.
