Founded in 1988 by the city of Albi and the Lapérouse Albi-France association, the museum occupies the restored old Albi mills, with their red-brick vaults. It brings together some 640 objects relating to the Albi-born navigator Jean-François de Lapérouse, including models, instruments, family mementoes and remains from La Boussole and L'Astrolabe.
