Museum opened in 1873 in the mansion of the naturalist Henri Lecoq, whose bequest to the city formed the core of the collections. Botany, geology, palaeontology and zoology sit alongside scientific instruments, including a pascaline, the first calculating machine, invented by Blaise Pascal.
