Funerary chapels of the Medici family attached to the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence: the Sagrestia Nuova, designed by Michelangelo between 1521 and 1534 with his tombs of Giuliano and Lorenzo de' Medici, and the octagonal Cappella dei Principi, begun in 1604 under Grand Duke Ferdinando I to designs by Matteo Nigetti, its walls faced in inlaid marble and semi-precious stone. A state museum since 1869, it has formed part of the Bargello Museums group since 2014.
