Royal park of the Reggia di Caserta, laid out by architect Luigi Vanvitelli from 1752 for the Bourbon king Charles III along a long axis of fountains fed by the Carolino Aqueduct and culminating in the Diana and Actaeon cascade. Within it, Queen Maria Carolina had an English-style garden added from 1786, one of the first in Italy, with exotic plants, small ruins and ponds. The whole complex is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 1997.
