Castle in Copertino, Puglia, whose oldest quadrangular tower dates from the 13th-14th centuries; it was rebuilt as a star-shaped Renaissance fortress with four corner bastions by the military architect Evangelista Menga, completed in 1540 for Alfonso Castriota. It features a Catalan-Durazzo portal and the chapel of San Marco, frescoed from 1557 by Gianserio Strafella, and was declared a national monument in 1886.
