National archaeological museum opened in 2022 in a former Austrian military prison built in neo-medieval style on the site of a 13th-16th-century Carmelite monastery. It displays prehistoric and protohistoric material from the Verona area, including a painted stone from Fumane Cave dated to around 38,000 years ago, described as the oldest surviving European Upper Palaeolithic pictorial representation.
