Archaeological park of Amiternum, an ancient Sabine town about 11 km north of L'Aquila that became a Roman municipium and the birthplace, around 86 BC, of the historian Sallust. Visible remains include an Augustan-period theatre and a 1st-century AD amphitheatre that could hold up to about 6,000 spectators, along with traces of a domestic villa with mosaics and stretches of the Via Caecilia.
